We are now just days away from the launch of MyTax.DC.gov, the Office of Tax and Revenue’s new online tax portal.
As we have mentioned, MyTax.DC.gov will make viewing and paying taxes in the District easier, simpler, and more efficient than ever. For some tax types, taxpayers will even be able to file online. The initial application will include individual, franchise, and withholding taxes as well as registration for businesses. Other taxes and fees will remain in eTSC until they are converted to the Modernized Integrated Tax System (MITS) in phases over the next two and a half years.
We wanted to share with you some of the most common questions about MyTax.DC.gov:
When can I access the portal?
Taxpayers can access MyTax.DC.gov beginning November 1.
Why should I sign up for MyTax.DC.gov?
While the portal will offer many services that will not require an account, some of the key features can only be accessed after signing into the system. The services that are accessible are viewing correspondence, making electronic payments, storing bank information, and gaining third party access to other MyTax.DC.gov taxpayer accounts (with their permission). These features allow taxpayers to have enhanced control over their tax accounts.
How do I sign up for MyTax.DC.gov?
You can sign up for MyTax.DC.gov by clicking the “Sign up to use MyTax.DC.gov” button on the homepage. The system will prompt you, step-by-step, to provide all the information needed to complete the sign-up process.
You will need the following:
- Valid email address
- Most recent notice/correspondence and/or return
- Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) or Social Security Number (SSN)
I have an eTSC account, do I need to sign up to use MyTax.DC.gov?
For taxpayers with an eTSC login, you will be unable to transfer your login credentials to MyTax.DC.gov. Once the portal is live, you will need to sign up for a MyTax.DC.gov username and password to benefit from the full range of services.
One of the web pages is not working, who should I contact?

How do I make a payment?
- Directly from the MyTax.DC.gov homepage: Click ”Quick Payment”
- While signed into your MyTax.DC.gov account: Click either ”Make a Payment” or ”Balance Due”
- If you owe for multiple periods and wish to pay the balance in full, please select ”Account Payment” as the payment type. To make multiple payments by period, please select “Bill Payment.” Please note: “Bill Payment” will not allow you to pay your balance in full.
How do I request third party access for another account?
Sign into your MyTax.DC.gov account and under the ‘I Want To’ header, select the option to request third party access. After clicking the link, select the account type you would like to access, e.g. Withholding Wage Tax. Enter either the FEIN for a business or the SSN for an individual. Submit the request. The requested taxpayer account will receive a notification under “Alerts” in his/her MyTax.DC.gov account that states “Pending Account Access Request.” The taxpayer will see information from your web profile and he/she may choose to reject or grant access. When granting access, he/she will also be able to set the permission level.
